Can I use a modern cable modem to reduce pinging to distant servers?
Can I use a modern cable modem to reduce pinging to distant servers? I'm using a MACBOOK PRO, and interested in to purchase CM1200 like modern modem. I use 5years old modem provided from ATT which uses AT&T's 1Gb fiber optic line. I checked PINGm 5ms to my local server and 120ms to my Tokyo server. I would like to make this shorter.

Modems don't control pings. However singals on the line and other things can cause problems.
Have the ISP check the signal and line quality UP to the modem.
Be sure there are no coax cable line splitters in the between the modem and ISP service box.
Be sure your using good quality RG6 coax cable up to the modem.
