The C6300 is capable of 150Mbps up to 680 Mbps. DOCSIS 3.1 is required for 1Gb speeds. Most low speeds like 150Mpbs does not need DOCSIS 3.1.
DOCSIS 3.0 and 3.1 are different hardware thus can't be upgraded. You have to get into a newer modem that supports 3.1.

Thanks for that. Interesting that it can go up to 680mbps. My cable company (not a major name provider like Xfinity or Comcast) claims that I need DOCSIS 3.1 to go above 150mbps.

Well, technically NO you don't. However it's up to the ISPs to make there policies which we can't change. It's up to them. Honestly, you might ask a different tech there about it. I had 200Mbps on a 3.0 modem back then. Even on my Motorola 6180 and Netgear CBR40 which is 3.0 I saw up to 900Mpbs on my ISP with my CBR40. 3.0 is well capable of handling 150Mpbs. Not sure why there telling you that or just wanting you to buy there stuff or more stuff when it's not needed. I bet your modem will work if they just associated it on there network and you powered it OFF and back ON. 150Mpbs only needs 8 channels I believe.

Some ISP's have been requiring docsis 3.1 for lower and lower speed tiers. I know cox was in the process of switching over to needing docsis 3.1 for speeds >150mbps.
