After connecting your PC directly to the modem, are you turning OFF the modem for 30 seconds then back on then check to see if the PC gets a public IP address and then has access to the internet? This should work here...Sometimes i may take a miniute or two for the PC to get fully connected with the modem...

This modem is a modem only. It does not have a DCHP server or any wifi support. It can only support 1 PC or external router connected to it. So a wired PC should get internet access thru the modem if directly connected to the modem.
Have you connected a external router to the back of the Modem? Then connect ALL wired and wireless devices to the router?

Everything works fine when the Asus WiFi router is connected to the modem. Wired and wireless.
However, if I connect a PC directly to the modem I cannot get access to the internet. I've tried a ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew from the CMD prompt but no go. Comcast is of no help at all. Several hours and the people there don't seem to understand. WT...!

No I sure wasn't. Duh...I should have known better since this doesn't have DHCP. Thought I read that it did. No matter. I'm connected directly and on the internet after doing a brief disconnect from power. Now if Comcast can figure out how to get my access back to xfinitywifi hots spots. Since I swapped out the modem I've lost access and they're quite confused.
