Can't connect to the Internet after isp activation of cable modem cm700

Be sure your PCs networking it set for Auto Obtain IP addressing and the LAN cable between the PC and modem is of good quality. CAT6 recommended. 

Try a different wired PC with the modem.

They suspect I got a bad modem so I returned it and will have a new one tomorrow but I am skeptical that the modem was bad  has anyone had this happen to them and if so how did you resolve it?
