CAX 30 and XFinity Upload Speed
i have a cax 30 and my xfinity service is 1gb download, 100mb upload. i get somewhere between 500 and 800mb download (which i guess is okay) BUT my upload speed is stuck around 25mb (which is not...

1. i can't get nextgen service at this time regardless of my modem.
2. even if i did have nextgen service, my cax30 is not yet capable of that (even though it is a recommended device)
correct?
Your specific service address has not yet been updated to receive the Xfinity Next Gen service. Work in progress across the Xfinity service areas.
Your CAX30 does not have the updated firmware necessary to allow it to connect to the Xfinity Next Gen network. The list of devices approved for Next Gen network connection is updated by Xfinity every month or so.
Yes, correct.

Looking at your logs, we see some correctables and un-correctables that should be mostly zeros but not too bad.
Power levels are with in specs.
Ya, no OFDMA signal. Something to ask the ISP about.
Also the event log is loaded with Critcials. Any Criticals, Errors or Warnings seen in the event logs needs to be reviewed and resolved by the ISP. Indicates a signal issue on the ISP line up to the modem.
Have the ISP check the signal and line quality UP to the modem. Be sure the ISP provisions the modem correctly.
Be sure there are no coax cable line splitters in the between the modem and ISP service box.
Be sure your using good quality RG6 coax cable up to the modem.
Start with removing any amplifiers, signal attenuators, or splitters from the coax.
From there check the line for kinks, damage, moisture in the line.
Check the connectors for improperly made ends, foil touching the copper coax line, loose connections, bad/old/cheap connectors, or corroded connections. Replace them if you do.
Be sure to power OFF the modem for 1 minute then back ON.

FYI, since the CAX30 only has 1Gb supporting LAN ports, the CAX30 may only be deemed supporting of 1Gb ISP speeds or lower. CC and XF split there ISP services a couple of years ago into a 800Mbps and 1.2Gb service and discontinued there actual 1Gb service in various areas. So best recommendation is to ask the ISP about there 800Mpbs service for now, if there not supporting of the actual 1Gb service. The CAX30 would not be supportive of anything beyond that.

did not factory reset.

i did have a splitter and got rid of that. the cable i am using is from comcast/xfinity and to me seems fine. same speeds.
i'll check on the errors to see if that has stopped now.

Post up another set of cable connections and event logs so we can check.
Check with the ISP to see if the 1Gb package is being offered, if so, then the CAX30 will work. I know mine does, however I'm not on XF ISP.

yea, the 1gb, 100mb plan would be great if i could get close to that especially the upload. and i understand my modem maxes out below 1gb--that's fine. of course, someday i hope they'll get fiber here or real docsis 4.0. either would be great.
so i ended the split cable--it now goes directly into the router. did that around 210pm today (1410)

okay, so i have the 1gb plan. it shows as 100mb upload to me and to billing/customer service and even to most of the tech people. but a "high level" xfinity tech person told me i only have 20mb upload.
i'd be somewhat interested in the 1.2gb plan with 35mb upload. i'm not sure that is truly worth it to me but would it actually give me upload speeds close to 35mb? (with my cax30 and current xfinity cable connection)

The change in plan should give you the additional upload capacity. Your CAX30 and the currently installed firmware are capable of supporting the 35 Mbps upload throughput. Your download throughput will cap out at around 940-950 Mbps.
Keep in mind, Xfinity routinely over provisions the modems by 20%, either leased or customer owned. On paper, if you have the 1000/20 Mbps throughput tier, you should see 950/24 Mbps depending on how you test and with what application or device.
I am running the CM2050V modem with a R9000 router. Using the Netgear mobile application for Android, I routinely test out at 1175/18 Mbps with my 1000/15 plan.

mmm. okay. i'll give it thought.
my experience is similar on speed although download, i get less.
thanks for the help and insight. : )

Lots of Criticals that the ISP should look at. Something is out of tune on the ISP signal up to the modem.
What FW version is currently loaded on the gateway?

so turns out i can get 100 mb uploads.
i rented an xfinity xb8 and i am getting 100 mb uploads. (the download speeds are in the 400s which isn't very impressive given i have a 1gb package but i guess is fine enough)
i am probably going to return my cax 30 and get a next gen approved modem/router.

Would need to have the ISP clear the items mentioned in the CAX30s logs.
Its up to the ISP to support the CAX series on there system and with all the new changes going on at this level, may or may not be supported at this time or in your specific area:
Something to keep an eye on. I'd probably wait for the ISP to get everything all implemented and working then make the jump to a supported modem of your own.
