I moved the extender close enough to the TV that I could connect them by ethernet cable. It's about a week with no issues.

some TV's aren't known for having the best wifi cards in them. And the single band ones are atrocious.
You might be better to use that extender (not sure what one you got) and hardwire the tv into the extender.
What extender did you get?
Or switch to a powerline system for the tv.
