Cax80 compatibility
What mesh devices are compatible with the cax80? I'm kinda new to networking. I really don't want to switch modems but will if I absolutely have to. Need help with building a mesh network with the cax...
- Oct 21, 2023The router part of your CAX80 is not compatible with Mesh so you'll have to buy a complete Mesh package (router + satellites) so that's why I mentioned putting the CAX80 in bridge otherwise you'll end up with 2 separate LANs that can't talk to each others (double NAT)
You can control it by going to http://192.168.1.1

You need to put the CAX80 in bridge mode, then you can use any Mesh package (Orbi, RBR, etc) or from another vendor.

Thanks for the reply! How do I do that? After I do that do I just purchase the satellites like mk63?

If it was me, I'd leave the CAX80 in router mode and put the mesh setup in access point mode.
That prevents the double nat.
Then you just set the mesh system with a separate ssid and on different wireless channels (to prevent interference).
The CAX80 is a pretty fast/solid device and you could put the devices near it on its wireless, with the ones at the peripheral on the mesh system. Lets you load balance it a bit.
- TallightskinnedOct 24, 2023AspirantI just got a tp link mesh system. If I set it up the way you said with the mesh in AP mode and cax80 in routerwould I be able to game(xbox) on the satellites. The problem I'm having is the my wifi signal is weak downstairs where my Xbox is, so I'm trying to get the signal to be less laggy and choppy. Will this really help?

That's always the goal.
Can't say 100% without trying it but I've done is several times for additional coverage.
