With verizon Fios, the ONT is the modem, and the horrible router that they will rent out, is just a horrible router, with the main difference being a remote access function where you can change settings from the account page on the verizon fios website.
If you have the verizon fios TV and internet package, depending on your set top box, you may need a MoCA adapter. For example, on the motorola STBs verizon disables the Ethernet port on the STB in software in order to encourage people to rent their MoCA and Ethernet router.
If you end up in that situation, I recommend not rending the overpriced but low end router from Verizon, instead, see if you can get a cheap used actiontec mi424wr or other low end older fios specific router (mainly because you can use them as a MoCA to Ethernet bridge, and often for around $15-$20. While it will be an old 802.11n WiFi router, the goal is to change its local IP something else, and disabling the DHCP server, then doing a LAN to LAN connection, as well as disabling its WiFi. Overall, it is cheaper than thestand along MoCA adapters :).
If you don't have Fios TV service, or if you have an STB where the Ethernet ports were not disabled, then you can just use your rotuer without worrying about MoCA.
