About a little more than a month ago (had router for 3 years), I found myself unable to connect to game servers (across the board, no particular game in general) and some voice servers. The comput...

As the OP says, I tried port forwarding without success. A port scan shows all ports as filtered, even when firewall is completely off and port forwarding is enabled.
I doubt it's an issue with the ethernet. Complete internet failure has only occured a couple times. I can browse the internet just fine, it just seems like something is blocking the connection to game and voice servers.

Just to rule out ethernet, I changed the cable to another one and the issue persists.

I turned NAT off and it works flawlessly, but obviously now my WiFi connection doesn't work.
Does that give you any clues onto the root cause of the issue?

So after disabling NAT you have no wifi connection at all?

without NAT enabled: broadcasted the SSID, but had no connection wirelessly. Games worked perfectly (ethernet).
Turned NAT back on, been trying the port forwarding route again. Worked fine for a day, but its started to disconnect me more frequently in the following days from game servers (browsing still fine).
Some ports I had opened on the port forwarding still register as being closed on a port scan.
