CG3000DV2 speeds vary by time of day
I'm coming here as a last resort. I have a CG3000DV2 that has served me well for just over a year now on a Time Warner Cable subscription. Over the past three days I've suddenly developed a new problem: in the evening I have incredibly slow speeds (2 or 3 Mbps), but in the morning my speeds are exactly what I'm paying for (20+ Mbps). This occurs both over wifi and via ethernet. I've had Time Warner on the phone for hours on end, and they even sent a technician to check out the connection, but they claim there is nothing wrong with my connection, and that is must be the modem/router. I have tried everything I can think of with the router, including a factory reset.
Is that actually possible, for the router/modem itself to affect my internet speeds so drastically based on the time of day, regardless of Time Warner's network quality? Or are they just giving up instead of actually finding the problem?

They are probably giving up. It's likely that all your neighbors are at home using the Internet at night. Cable is a shared, oversubscribed medium, so this can directly lead to congestion.
