Choppy Internet connection (N450)
Good morning,
For the past four days, I've been experiencing unsteady Internet connection. A few noticable things are that other family members occasionally have trouble printing from the wireless printer (even from the computer that is hardwired to the printer), and I myself experience lag while gaming online. I'll be playing a game, then for about three to five seconds everything will freeze, then repeat every ten seconds or so.
I've contacted my ISP (Time Warner Cable.. now Spectrum; trusting this has nothing to do with the sudden issue... ha) for support, but they claim the problem is not with them (since I am connected to the Internet, there are no outages in my area, the speed tests indicate the speed I pay for, etc.). They say there may be a host of other issues, such as the router itself, signal interference from other networks, etc. How could I best resolve this without troubleshooting everything under the sun? I appreciate your time and support in advance.
King regards,
Josh

Hi there, I am having the exact same issue :/
I could have copied and pasted your post for my own. N450, isp is TWC and it started happening 4-5 days ago. Speeds are inconsistent and there is some freezing happening while gaming and on speedtest.net
I contacted TWC and they said the exact same thing that they told you, everything looked good on their end. They sent a firmware update to my N450 and my signal strenght as pertaining to the dB in my lines are rated as good. I don't know what else I can try and this is pretty infuriating.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
A tech savvy friend of mine came over last night, and pointed out that the current firmware version stated on the router login page is 3.01.06; but Netgear's website says it should be 1.00.05 for TWC (this was last updated only about 20 minutes, same information as last night). See here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/25477/~/current-firmware-version-for-netgear-cable-modem-routers.

I am seeing the same issue.
- tonyd22TutorThe TWC solution did not resolve the issue. Resetting the router as suggested by others, did resolve it.
No one wants to claim any responsibility for this sudden experience of poor connection. I've caved in and purchased new equipment. I was advised it is best to use a router and modem separately than a wi-fi router combo modem, such as the one we are all having trouble with here (Netgear N450).
Although it seems like a risk going with Netgear again, my aforementioned tech savvy buddy recommended I get the Netgear CM 400 modem and Netgear R6220 router. I will be setting these up tonight. We'll see how it goes.
