Thats a ISP configuration which some ISPs will not support due to some users having bought there own modems. ISPs have seen problems with users owned modems in which configurations or FW has been pushed to the user owned modem and causing damage to the user owned modem thus incurring costs to get the modem replaced by the ISP historically. So some ISPs will NOT set any non standard configuration or send FW files to user owneed modems. It's all up to the ISP to decide there policy regarding this. There is no user configuration or ability for users to update FW on cable modems. This is a DOCSIS spec.
