Ask them to install a attenuator between the modem and cable jack. This will help bring the power level down some. I have one on mine:

Thank you... I couldn't remember the name of the device that would bring DOWN the signal. 🙂
So question that probably sounds extremely dumb... I know LOW signal level would keep you from acquiring stable signal locks, etc. But, how would twice the power affect the signal making it drop connection until the modem is power cycled? I'm just curious...
Also, with Cox, there's the ability to "Reset Modem" (which most ISP apps have now), and that NEVER works after the modem has been online for a day or so. If I try it the same day I manually power cycled the modem, it'll work all day long. But, let it set for a while, I guess with the signal becoming degraded and whatnot, it doesn't work. Cox can still send a Cold Hit and/or Warm Hit to the modem no matter what and it works.
I just think it's really weird. Never had this happen with too much signal. 🙂

Too much power maybe overloading the modem and components and causing some over heating as well. Could cause some damage if left unchecked over time.
The reset button should work too reset any modem.
The web pages reboot function should work too soft reboot the modem. However who knows that ISPs can do with there configuration files.

Makes sense FURRYe38... The modem as it is, is a bit too warm to the touch in my opinion. The modem is in an enclosed cabinet right next to my 1TB Western Digital NAS drive with an IDE drive in it. The NAS drive runs a LOT cooler than the modem does.
It's almost like a piece of pizza... The slice you just ate that was chillin on the counter top all afternoon is my NAS drive. The piece you just ate that was in the microwave for 15 seconds is the Netgear Modem.
I understand the web interface and / or reset button work perfectly fine. HOWEVER... When we are on vacation flying to San Diego, Northern Arizona, etc. for lunch, and the internet vanished, there's no way to reboot the modem without calling Cox which I can fly back from Sedona to N. Phoenix faster than I can get someone on the phone at Cox.

Once the power and signal on the line is to spec, you shouldn't have a need for any reboots. Modems are designed to run for days and months 24/7.
