Did you need to contact your ISP and have them activate your "different" modem or did you just make the cable connection and power it up?

I didn’t have them provision that modem just plugged it in and it worked I also thought that was strange, I did however give them the MAC address for the previous modem.

They need the one off the current modem, not the prior.

That means giving your ISP the MAC address on the bottom of the CM1000v2.
Most ISPs will not activate more than one modem at a time. You just have to make up your mind, which modem you want to use and make sure it is the one your ISP on the other end of the coax has activated.
You also have to make sure the ISP on the other end of your coax supports the CM1000v2.
