This morning my internet connection suddenly stopped working, with my modem only showing amber lights on the Ethernet LEDs, not even a power light besides that. After resetting, unplugging, and more t...

No, as I'm not able to access the device from my current location, but as I said before the only thing in the event log within the past month is an error from a power flicker over fourteen hours prior to the modem dying. It worked with no issues, after the power resumed, nothing shows in the event log since that point, just suddenly it stopped working and the serial number and Mac address updated to show dead01.

power surges are great at wrecking electronics.
you can try disconnecting the coax from it, then pushing and holding reset for up to 30 seconds while powered on.
See if it'll clear out any issues.
You can also check to see if the ISP can ping/reprovision it.
- TtodegaardFeb 24, 2022AspirantAll I want to know is what the root causes of the serial number and Mac address updating to dead01 could be. I've done all of the basic troubleshooting, and more advanced of checking the event logs. It worked without issues for 14 hours after the power issue that didn't affect more delicate electronics that aren't on any form of surge protection when the cable modem is on surge protection.
The only low hanging fruit things to discuss are the serial number and Mac address change.- plemansFeb 24, 2022Guru - Experienced User
root cause analysis tree:
- serial number/mac issue
- modem doesn't work
- reboots, resets not working
- power surge coincides with initial issue even if got working for a bit.
- root cause: power surge corrupted something in the modem.
Sadly, modems firmware locked by isp because of docsis spec.
so unless the ISP can reprovision it, its probably bricked.
