Solved - despite the four green LEDs on the modem suggesting it was officialy conneceted, a character in the MAC address was incorrect. Why the MAC address authority allows "B" and "8" to coexist and be printed in capitals is beyond me.... Same issue with "0" and "O".

Ya, I agree, the font used on the stickers and box can be hard to see. I wish they would use more visable font type to avoid confusion like this.
Glad you got it working though. You might take a pen and write on a post it note and stick it to the modem and or box for future reference.
