Cm2050v

I own a cm2050v modem. It has 1 LAN port. How do I expand it to 2 LAN ports?

    By adding a router.

The cm2050v is a cable modem with voice (phone) capability. It cannot handle more than one Internet connection.

You need to add a router that supports several LAN ports. This will also provide you with wifi capability.

If you already have something that does wifi, then that is your router and you need to plug LAN devices into that.

Who's your isp? Even though the CM2050V has more than 1 ethernet port, the majority of ISP's only support 1 public IP address. Meaning only 1 router can be connected to it.

what are you trying to do with it?

Correction, the CM2050V does not have more than 1 Ethernet port.

You can connect a computer direct to the one CM2050V Ethernet port and have access to the internet.  However, the firewall protection provided by the computer operating system is very limited compared to a router.  It is not recommended to connect a computer direct to your modem except for short duration testing purposes.
