The meshforce M1 isn't a gigabit capable router. Its only 10/100mbps.
Thats why the modem is showing amber (red) on the ethernet connection. Thats signifying a 10/100mbps connection.

Basically it means the modem is capable of 10/100/1000mbps connections. But the router isn't. It only has 10/100mbps connections.
So when you connect it to the modem, the modems amber light is signifying its only connected at 10/100mbps speeds.
If it was the faster 1000mbps connection, it would be green.
green=1000mbps connection
amber=10/100mbps connection
