Ya, It will be up to the ISP to support model modems on there mid split or higher speed tiers. All up them.

I wouldn't buy the 2050v unless you absolutely needed the phone line. It isn't approved for xfinity's next gens speeds (and that's probably what the maintenance was). If you don't need the phone line, the CM3000 would hit the next gen speeds.
Not sure if the cm2050v will get approved because even the forums for xfinity have conflicting info.

I do use home phone some, and mostly for faxes (to/from Drs office). So would have to get another 2050v. There was a 3050v that I saw in listed as being tested for approval a year or two ago, but it has never come out
