If the cm2000 worked fine directly connected to the modem---pc route, i wouldn't be suspecting the modem. I'd be looking at the router closer.

Thanks plemans. I agree with your thinking, but there's nothing that I can change on the router regarding it's handling of the WAN port. I think I'm going to factory-reset the CM2000 and try another self-install. It may take several days. I'll report back and share my experience.

Thanks plemans! The problem was indeed solved by a change on the router.
I had to disable "Network Service Detection" on my Cisco RV345.
