Have you tried to tell the ASUS to forget the network and reconnect again? also have you looked in your router settings under LAN ip to see if the device is showing under the DHCP client info.

Yes I tried that plus many, many other things such as setting a static IP address, confirming the Netgear was running latest firmware, updating driver on ASUS, etc. I had the same problem with my son's Surface Pro. Both the Surface Pro and the ASUS are using 802.11n whereas everything else I have connected to the Netgear is 802.11b/g.
I ended up buying a $20 TPLink wireless access point, turning off DHCP on the TP Link, connecting the TPLink to the Netgear and then connecting the ASUS to the TP Link. This works fine and the ASUS connects with 802.11n. I have also connected the ASUS to an 802.11g network with no issues.
My guess is the Netgear is not properly handling 802.11n connections but I don't know why.
