That's what I'd do.

Which "The instructions"? Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in
your model number, and look for Documentation. Get the User Manual and
the Hardware Installation Guide (et al.). In the Hardware Installation
Guide, look for "Optional Step 6: Install SFP Transceiver Modules". I'd
guess that this part applies to you:
