Yes, the XAV2101v2 does not have Gigabit Ethernet, so that mystery is solved.
I see no value in putting the XB3 back into router mode. Consider doing a factory reset of the Powerline adapter and set it up from scratch.

I contemplated trying to update the firmware, but went with your suggestion first and did the factory reset for both powerline adapters. Last piece of the puzzle-- I finally decided to look at the alarm modem(?) that the other powerline adapter was connected to and saw that one of the lights was blinking orange. So I did the most technical thing I could think of and unplugged it and plugged it back in and now everything works!
Thanks again for your help. My wife is mildly impressed.
