connecting to modem
My son can't connect to my modem downstairs in his room upstairs. How do I resolve this.

It should only be 1 device connecting to the modem. That'd be the router.
yes the CM1200 has 4x ports but the average user can only use 1 port.
the only time more can be used is if you're paying for a business class line, have an isp that supports mulitple public ip adresses (rare), or happen to have a router that supports wan port aggregation.
