Cooling my cable modem

This cable modem sits upright but it sits high on a shelf where the heat in thr room rises. what is ther best way to cool thjis modem better? can i have an esternal fan pushing/pul;ling air to keep it cooler?  If I lay it on its side how shoudk i keeo it cool then?

       Sure.  Who could stop you?  How hot does it get?

       A fan could blow air at it.

     

       You might find that a 12V fan with a 5V power supply would be
    adequate, and quieter than a full-power/full-speed arrangement.

     

       Whenever you blow air, you blow dust, so more attention to cleaning
    would be appropriate.
