DNS Settings Grayed Out
I'm trying to change the DNS Settings on my cable gateway. It's an AC1900/C6300BD wireless cable data gateway and my internet provider is Cox. I have logged in using the address for the modem. How...
I gave Cox a call. They said that that functionality is disabled on newer modems, and they cannot change it. Also, all future modems will have the same functionality disabled. It's time to switch to a new ISP. Thank you for trying to work through this with me.
Parental controls have never been enabled on the modem. I had one previously on the computer, but it has been uninstalled. AVG Antivirus is still active, if that might make a difference.
I should mention that I was able to select the button after I unclicked 'Use Gateway as DHCP Server' on the 'LAN Setup' page. But when I entered the new DNS servers and clicked 'Apply', the new addresses would not be used; the old ones would still be listed on the 'Gateway Status'. Shortly (maybe 10 minutes) after unclicking that button, 'Use Gateway as DHCP Server', however, I was no longer able to log into the modem. When I typed in the address, it was say that it was not able to find that page. I had to do a factory reset of the modem to be able to log in again.
Wondering if your ISP is making any configuration changes to your modem. Something to ask them about.

Eeeks. Thanks for letting us know. I would go with a stand alone modem unit then connect up your own external wifi router.
