Email Notification Setup

Hi,

Can someone please assist me setting up the email notifications on my Netgear DG834GUv5 Router.

I've read up on some posts and port 25 is blocked. Is there a work around on this or not.

It's pretty straight forward to set up the email notifications but getting this error message:

"[email failed] Administrative prohibition, Wednesday, Aug 05,2015 20:03:28"

Much appreciated.

Thanks.

    Hello Jvdwesthuizen

Unfortantly i dont believe this can be fixed with this modem model the ISPs block port 25 and this model being older dosnt seem to have the option to change the port like newer ones . sorry about that ill keep looking if i can find a workaround for you.

    • Hi Darren,

Thanks for the reply. Please do let me know ifyou find something, will be much appreciated.

I remember it wasn't always blocked, butwhy does the ISP block port 25?

Also, you can't add the port in the smtp address, etc: mail.domain.co.za:25

Can you upgrade the firmware on the router? Does the router even have updated firmware?

      Please letme know.

The reason ISP block port 25 is because it is the port that spam is sent out of so if customers get a spam virus having this blocked causes less issues for the ISP. As for the smtp address you can always try that and see if it works i would try using port 2525. And for the firmware you cant upgrade it on your own when NETGEAR completes the firmware we send it to the ISP and they make whatever changes they want to make to it and then the ISP decides when they want to push it out to the customers so you should have the most recent firmware from the ISP. If you got any more questions let me know.
