ethernet cable from router or modem?

A CM1200 cable modem connected to an RAX54S modem. My question is, is it better to run the ethernet cable to the computer from the modem, or from the router? Or does it make no difference?

for most ISP's, only 1 device can be connected to the modem.

who's your isp? Most of the major ones like xfinity/cox only support 1 connected device.

Spectrum. So, if connected to the modem, the ISP would see it as two connected devices? Never noticed this in the contract, but it makes sense.

The modem is assigned a public ip address that it then assigns to the router. The router assigns private ip addresses to the devices connected to it (simplified version). The ISPs only assign a single public IP address. so if you connect more than 1 device to the modem, one of them won't work as it doesn't get that public or a private ip address (from the router since its not connected to the router).
