Firmware update for N600 Router

I have been trying to apply a firmware upgrade for our N600 router. I've followed all the Netgear instructuctions but the main problem is the zip file downloaded from the website can't be opened - a message appears :"The disk image file is corrupted". Any thoughts - thx

"N600" is a speed, not a model number.  Ever helpful, Netgear
product packaging emphasizes speeds like "Nxxx", but that's not the
    model identifier.

When you do what, exactly?  On what kind of computer?

What you should do is download the ".zip" archive, and extract the
files therein.  If you use Safari to do that download, then it may
automatically extract the contents of the ".zip" archive; with another
browser, you should be able to get contents extracted by double-clicking
on the downloaded ".zip" archive in a Finder window.

Then, read the Release Notes file, which should include the
instructions for how to load the firmware into the router.  Hint:
Double-clicking on the ".img" file is not the way.
