GS108 Problem with connection
hi Uk user: Virgin Media Super Hub 2 Cable set as modem connected to Apple AirPort Extreme Tower. good WiFi around all the house . when I connect the GS108 to the APE it knocks out the WiFi ....

Forgive me I only have basic knowledge in this area, I will try and explain better.
The model is : Prosafe 8 Port Gigabit Desktop Switch ( GS108v4) Box reads
"Plug & Play Connectivity" Gigabit Ethernet Switch
My cable broadband is connected to the VM super Hub 2 ( set in modem mode)
I have an Apple AP Extreme tower next to it connected to the VM SH Via Ethernet cable( in the correct ports it has been working fine for approx 2 years)
2 of the spare ports are connected direct to my iMac and Printer via patch cables.
All of which work ok , WiFi signals around the house are generally ok for the last few years.
However the furthest room downstairs does struggle for a signal at times.
My thoughts where to run a cable from a spare port on the APE down to the room , connect it to the Prosafe , thus enabling me the option of a wired connection in that room for a smart TV, games console etc.
When I connect a cat 5 cable to the gigabit switch from the one remaining spare port on the APE I loose WiFi completely.
when I check the Airport utility app it shows a green light for internet connection however the APE goes off line/green light goes off.Thus loosing my WIFi signal
The Prosafe is powered on and the port I'm connecting to - Port 1 has the green lights above flashing intermittently.

It's nice that you believe that you connected things to "the correct
ports", but it would be more helpful to identify the ports, and let
others decide whether the connections are "correct". ("[...] I only
have basic knowledge in this area [...]") See "Hint: [...]", above.

Sounds reasonable enough. "a spare port" means one of the three
"Ethernet LAN" ports? (See the manual cited above.)

A typical Ethernet cable has two ends. Do you see the problem when
you connect that (long?) cable to the APE, or when you connect that
(long?) cable to the APE when its other end is connected to something
(like the GS108)?

Still a mystery.
If you bring the GS108 to the APE, and connect only the APE to the
GS108 using a different/short (known-good) cable, do you see the same
problem? Is the problem with the (long?) cable, with the GS108 being
connected to the APE, or with the GS108 being connected to the APE using
the (long?) cable, or what?

_Which_ "green light"? What does Apple call it? (See the manual
cited above.)
