Almost certainly, that won't work. You get to connect one device
(the router) to the modem, not multiple deveces (through a switch).
What should work is: ISP ---> modem ---> router ---> switch.
Whether your wiring is suited for that arrangement (leaving the
router in a central location) I can't say. If the wiring all terminates
in a bad location for the router, then you might need one more wire to
the good router location, so that you can connect a router LAN port back
to the switch.
A no-new-wire alternative would be to leave the router with the modem
and switch, and add a new wireless access point (fed from the main
router or the switch), situated where you wished that you could put your
router.
