YES I KNOW CM1200 IS JUST A MODEM THATS WHY I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE ITS JUST A MODEM NOW LETS TRY THIS AGAIN
thank you for your response but i find it insulting. sorry not tring to be an a$#@ so let me try again
i understand its just a modem. but it has 4 ethernet ports either for link agg. or muli public ip at the same time on different ports in owners manual it shows option to connect to a router and connected to another device as long as your isp supplies multi public ip address. as mentioned above i have 5 publc ip address from my isp my aris sbg8200 just a modem as well has two ethernet ports and i am able to connect to router and another device both with different public ip add. so per instructions that you can pull up on this web site shows mult connections at a time so i should be able to connect to a router with one port and a ps4 or 5 on another port giving ps4 or 5 an public ip address no nat type that is ideal connection for console and router would get a different public ip address at same time shows right in the instructions for just a modem cm1200. so why is my cm1200 not working as it should. if i reconnect my just a modem arris sbg 8200 i get what i want two different public ip.
so im not a pro i.t guy. never went to school for any i.t self taught on i.t so i might be missing something i know the difference between a PUBLIC AND PRIVATE ip address lots of people dont but i do. just my self taught knowlage i took my 1gig speed internet and was able to max it out by link agg to 1.9 gig speed just as a hobby so if any one out there who dont respond because you think your answer might be to complicated or confusing dont let my spelling fool you but im fine with that kind of answer. thank you guys i know someone in here can help. i dont even dare call netgear those techs if they answer phone dont know the difference between a public and a private ip address they coulnt find their way out of a wet paper bag just as bad as xfinity tech support no help what so ever thank you

Don't blame the messenger. I have no idea why - with the exception when somebody wants to put a firewall or security appliance in a HA (high availability) configuration, or if multiple firewalls should be connected, eg. each handling a individual IP from the assigned subnet, or a massive LAG with up to four members should be configured - a modem should have more than one LAN port (for faster speed some MultiGig or 10G interface is the way to go in my opinion...)
What ever you try to explain ... I'm afraid, it's a modem, so there is nothing I can add here.
A possible explanation might be that your Arris Modem Comparison might have a feature not be in place on the Netgear cable modem - this little ** markup says:
**2nd IP address required for speeds greater than 1Gb. Link Aggregation may be required in some instances.
AFAIK Netgear does only support Link Aggregation (LAG).
Let's challenge a moderator to move your post to the CABLE MODEMS & ROUTERS community section, and hope that some Netgear moderator is able to pick up your question at this interesting point.
