How to enable parental controls on c7000V2

If I go to my netgear router page and click on "Parental Controls" in Genie, it automatically takes me to this annoying page, which tells me nothing: https://www.netgear.com/home/services/lpc/

 If I go to opendns.com and open an account and setup Open DNS on my router for Home Routers adding in the appropriate dns addresses, nothing happens, except it restarting my router. I've cleared all the recommended caches and history.

 I've opened half a dozen accounts between netgear and opendns, I've restarted the router multiple times, and I've been working on this for about 3 hours now. I'm about ready to toss this piece of $h*+ in the trash!!! GRRRRRRRRR.

 It seems clear that Netgear has gone away from genie toward the nighthawk app and are trying now to charge $8/month to do what I should be able to do for free.

 Is this hopeless?
