Internet sercive provider will not update my firmware

My cable provider told me since it my own router/modem they can't update it only netgear can do it then netgear says only my internet sercive provider can do I'm down go in a circle netgear or I'm giving you a bad review

    this is an industry wide issue. There's been multiple posts on here about this. 

    On cable modem/router combo devices, the isp controls the firmware. Netgear does make it available to the ISP but its up to the isp to implement it. And many choose not to because they have to test to certify it and it costs them $. Netgear can't force them to update it.

    And again, this isn't isolated to netgear. All device makers are stuck like this. 

    If you want to threaten about leaving bad reviews, make sure you do it about all device manufacturer's cause they're all caught in the ISP web. 

    You'd be better off to leave a bad review for the ISP actually causing the issue.
