Issues with computer communication via router Netgear Nighthawk
I think I am in the right spot to ask this......Hoping someone can help me figure out the issue I am having. I had to reset my modem becasue I dis the update and then had no internet. I reverted back to the previous version. Everything as far as intenet works great now. The issue I have is in trying to set up a homegroup. Both of them were at one time copnnected now they aren't. My two computers are not seeing each other so can't connect them. Something is not communicating right and I am not sure what. Sometimes they will show up connected to wireless via Netgear 35 and others just show wireless. I am not sure if that is an issue or not. I did recently have my modem die so I am currently using the cable companies modem so not sure if that is an issue either. I have windows 7. Appreciate some directives!

Model number? Look at the product label. Firmware version(s)?
Connected to what?> [...] I had to reset my modem [...]
Is your "my modem" the same as "Netgear Nighthawk", or a different
device? Maker? Model number? Firmware version?> [...] The issue I have is in trying to set up a homegroup. [...]
That's a Windows question, not a router question.
> [...] My two computers [...]
Connected how, to what?
> [...] are not seeing each other so can't connect them."seeing"? "can't" is not a useful problem description. It does
not say what you did. It does not say what happened when you did it.
As usual, showing actual actions with their actual results (error
messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.> [...] Sometimes they will show up connected to wireless via Netgear 35
> and others just show wireless."show up" where? At what, exactly, are you looking? What are the IP
addresses of these (unspecified) "My two computers"?> [...] I am currently using the cable companies modem [...]
Maker? Model number?
If you're connecting one computer to this (unspecified) "cable
companies modem", and the other to your (unspecified) "Netgear
Nighthawk", then that could explain some basic connection problems.- 3drcAspirant
OK I get that you are the one with knowledge here soplease be patient. I beleive I mis sopke in one part of my post and I will do my best to answer the questions. I am NOT a professional I know a little but that is it.
I have a Cable modem that I am using form my cable company, it is an Arris. THAT is all I know regarding it. I had gotten a router and modem from them when I was having major internet issues and needed to figure out if it was me or them. Turned out my modem had died.
I am using my Router a Netgear Nighthawk R7000. I do not know what else you need to know about it. I had done the most recent frirm ware update only to find out it totally screwed up my interent connectivity. After researching this forum I found that many were saying the update was bad and to revert to the previous version. I received direction on how to do so and did. After that I was fine, no issues. I have this version firmware installed V1.0.9.42_10.2.44
As far as the homegroup issue, I had my laptop and desktop settup as a homegroup. Then after the modem change I no longer have it nor can I see either computer from the other when I do the network map. SO I am unabale to to set up the homegroup again. When I log into my router and go to connected devices I can see the computer in there only if I am on athat computer. SO if I am at my desktop I can see it but not the laptop and vice versa. That does not make sense to me at all. I have checked to see if there is hidden or blocked and nothing is.
When I say I am not seeing them I am referring to being logged nto my router and looking at connected devices. I have firetvs and can see everything excpt the other computer. I never logged into the modem I am using form the bale company, I just plugged it in and logged into the cable company to activate.
I hope that explains more. Like I said I am not a professional I just would like to figure out what is going ona nd thought since I got help here before this would be the right place. Thanks!

What is the Mfr and model# of the ISP modem the NG router is connected too?
Possibly it already has a built in router here by chance? If so, This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop
