Issues with Netgear C7000 Cable Modem Router

After setting up my router/modem (Updated to latest firmware), I have been having trouble connecting devices to it.  My router is currently one floor below me but I am unable to connect my 2016 Macbook pro, Iphone 6s, HP laptop and Samsung 4k Smart TV to the router.  Even when I connect an extender to the router, and place that on the floor I am the connection is still very intermittent, slow, prone to drops and barely works.

    Have you tried to adjust the wireless channels to get a channel with the least amount of traffic?
