Hello hoosemaster
the wifi should be backwards compatible with the older wifi standards are you wanting to disable wifi all together?

Sorry I took so long to get back at you. The computer I'm looking at for whatever reason will only connect locally to the wifi network if there is a passphrase set. If its an unencrypted open network coming from my router it connects to the internet no problem. Ive done all the normal things. Forgotten the network then manually installed it. Held the reset button while unplugged for 30 sec then powered it back on then pulled the plug again all while holding the reset button in. That is a whole seperate thing and I dont want to hijack my own thread.
I started to try and think of the illogical outside the box reasons that I might be having an issue with connectivity. Then it popped in my head that the wireless card is only b/g and the router is b/g/n. I know there is no reason this should matter but I think we've all had that moment of relief/frustration/psychotic rage that comes when you have been troubleshooting something all night and you randomly uncheck a box that should have nothing to do with the issue and it clears it right up. I wanted to avoid that and figured since all it should really cost me is the time to log onto my router and uncheck a box might as well give it a shot.
Well upon realizing there was no opviuous box I could check I had a new mission for the evening......find that damn box..... ADD and kickstarts will do that to you. And all I really saw was that changing the encryption and the speed would sometimes cause a pop up telling me that that setting wouldnt give me the full N experience. But I dont think it really "shut off" the N it just meant I would be going slower than I could. Again sorry this took so long to get back to you.

Hello hoosemaster
no way to specifically shut N off but you could try to lower the wifi speed on the modem drop down see if that may help.
