modem router with legitimate QoS and 2.4/5G coexistence

I'm feeling disappointed with the R6220 router I bought, so I figured I'd return it and just get a modem router combo device that does what I want.

my old WNDR3800 router that it was replacing (it is unusably dead) could do QoS by letting me pick device connections to prioritize (the R6220 does not do this) and had 2.4/5G coexistence, as in I could give both frequency bands the same SSID. I'd appreciate help finding a modem router that allows me to do the same thing. These features aren't listed under the specifications for netgear, so I am here asking for input from device owners. I guess if I had to give myself a budget it would be a max of $250, but I'm also just living in an apatment with one other person so it really doesn't need to be over-the-top. Thank you for the help!

Most newer modem combo units are spendy, even ones that don't support single SSID. The CAX80 supports smart connect thus 1 SSID name for both 2.4 and 5Ghz. I can't remeber off the top of my head if the C7800 supports smart connect. Been a while since i've had mine online.

You maybe best in migrating to a modem only option, then installing a external wifi router or wifi mesh system behind the modem. This would better give you flexibility on wifi and router choices. Something you could look into a NG orbi 1 series wifi mesh system that supports smart connect and a signle SSID name for both radios. I believe the 1 series orbi is NGs cheaper version for Orbi. 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8 series Orbi range from

$400 to $700 depending upon system picked and retailer price. Or get a NG R or RAX series model router. Most R and RAX series support smart connect with signal SSID names between both radios. XR series routers are gaming routers as well if your a gamer, also support smart connect.
