Modem verse router

I use NETGEAR hotspot to get internet in my house. What would a modem or a router offer me? I get good internet but would like to get it stronger to improve my streaming of Hulu. Any advice?

    Modems are for ISP services lines, coax or phone, for ISP services up to the home. One would connect a wifi router to this modem. to gain access with one or more devices to the internet and internet services. Hot spots are some what limited on use and expandability. Having a modem and wifi router could be expanded for wifi coverage. NGs Orbi wifi systems would be whole home wifi coverage suggestion.
