my modem stopped working after a storm , the cable guy said there was a surge and a part burned out. I wasn't there to see it I guess it was a small wire hookup somewhere in the power area, can anyone help me?

Try a different power adapter. One with same voltage and amps on sticker of power adapter. if this fails, then you'll need to get a new modem.
