If it is the modem router, then there is something wrong with the message.
I am surprised that you can talk to the C7800 with the Nighthawk app. According to this, it does not support that modem.
None of the apps claims to support it.

But Netgear is famously sloppy at keeping things like that up to date.
The support pages for the C7800 don't talk about any apps. The only mention of downloads is the warning about firmware being beyond your control. This takes you to this page:
