Netgear CAX-80. Can you use it with a separate external modem?

I'm ditching my Xfinity combo modem/router and am leaning towards the CAX80. However, in the event that I want to upgrade the modem in the future, is it possible to connect the CAX80 to an outboard modem and use that in its stead?

    No. 

    You can switch it to modem only move. but there isn't a router only mode. 

    I'd recommend buying devices seperate. (modem + router) and not a combo device.
