Netgear CAX80 2 Gig speed
Greetings, I recently changed to 2 gig service with comcast infinity. I was on 1 gig service for about a year. At the router I was getting over 900 mbps so things seemed to work. The Netgear...

Greetings,
Thank you for the information, I see you are correct. The ads of course indicated it would work but hey we know how that goes.
In the past it was always less expensive to own my own modem and router. I'm thinking now that with the rapid technology changes it might make more sense to lease one from comcast. Because i have to turn around in a year or two and purchase a new one to take advantage of the improved tech.
I have reverted to 1 gig in the meantime for another year or so as I see how things will play out.
Thank you for the really good information!

Greetings,
Thank you for the excellent response.
So, it appears that the CAX80 regardless of what it advertises cannot get speeds over 1 Gig.
Directly off the router I indeed do get speeds close to 1 gig, 900 mbps. I'm ok with that speed as long as I'm not paying for 2 gigs. I reverted back in my service to 1 gig and I'll run it like that for the remainder of the year. There are only 3 people in the house so usually no more than 10 devices need to be connected anyway.
Netgear is not really helpful regarding what they claim in their specs. I bought the CAX80 figuring I could go to 2 gig anytime I wanted to. No, it is actually not even on Comcast list of devices for speeds over 1 gig.
I have always had my own equipment and just use comcast for the internet period. It appears that their business model is to require customers to use their equipment, and of course than pay the monthly rental charge.
As technology is always marching on, I'm keeping a lookout for Wi-Fi 7 and what that will look like.
Netgear doesn't appear to be able or willing to keep up with the technology as comcast evolves to ever more speed tiers. Buyer beware has never been more obvious as it is now.
Thank you again for your thoughtful response.

It's up to the ISP and NG to get modems working at the supported tier levels. NG has to wait for the ISP to test and certify new FW that comes from NG. Also very costly. NG and the ISP have been able to get some of the CM series going on newer speed tiers for those that both ISP and NG deems worth upgrading. I presume at some point that the CAX80 may come about and get an upgrade. Just takes time.
I've ran my CAX80 in a house of 4 people before and worked well on a 1Gb line with over 30 devices online. My ISP doesn't support anything more then that currently so anything I have online works still works good.
Don't think NG isn't willing to keep up with tech. There not the only ones involved in how modems are supported on ISP services. ISP are at the head and have most of the controls over modems.
