Netgear CM1100 firmware update help

I have a netgear CM1100 modem. My internet provider, Sparklight, does NOT update my modem, how do I update the firmware since they do not.  Sparklight ONLY updates equipment that a customer rents fro...

But if my ISP doesn't update it, and I can't update it, then updates never happen?  What then?

    then there aren't any more updates. Modems rarely get updates anyway because they don't really have any features. They aren't a router and don't have any traffic monitoring stand
