Netgear CM1100 firmware update help

For an update, I just had me ISP out at my house because I upgraded my internet to 1 gig. The repair guy from my ISP showed me how I can check the firmware on my MODEM! The repair guy from my ISP told me that THEY CAN'T update my modem firmware unless I am renting my modem from them. I am not renting from my ISP, I own all my own equipment. The login for the modem is located on the bottom of the Modem itself. I logged in and updated my password and checked the firmware. All IS up to date!!
It's up to the ISP to Update any connected modem to there network. Some ISP may not update user owned modems. Up to the ISP.
I'm surprised that Sparklight won't on yours unless they may deem it older generation. They can update user owned modems. Unless they have changed there policy. I had my CM1100 online with Sparklight and was seeing over 900Mpbs on there 1Gb plan. I haven't used the CM1100 in years. CM3000 is currently online with Sparklight.
