Do i have to contact service provider to activate new modem?

    What modem? you don't provide any details at all. Look at the list of compatible ISP modems if you bought a new one. If it doesn't work but is on the list, call your ISP

    Like the man says "What modem?".  I would add which ISP?  Activation requirements vary and have recently changed for some ISP's in some locations.
