NOTE: This upgrade is for the ROUTER portion of the CAX only. Modem portion Firmware upgrades are pushed down by your ISP. For more information, please see our  https://kb.netgear.com/000036375/What-s-the-latest-firmware-version-of-my-NETGEAR-cable-modem-or-modem-router

Manually update FW on the router if this isn't seen on the routers web page:

NOTE: Use a wired PC and web browser to update router FW. If continued problems are seen after a FW update, it's recommended to try a factory reset and setup from scratch with out loading any saved configurations from backup files.

  • Nighthawk tells me the latest firmware is installed and there are no upgrades. Will this be different if I use a wired PC and browser?

Maybe yes and maybe no.  That is the problem.  Experienced users have more consistent success doing a manual update of their router via a web browser on a computer connected to the router with an Ethernet cable.  In general, download the new firmware (it is in a .zip file) to your computer, unpack the binary (.bin) file from the zip file, log in to the user interface, go the the Advanced -> Administration -> Update Firmware page.

      See details here:  https://kb.netgear.com/23960/How-do-I-manually-update-the-firmware-on-my-NETGEAR-router

Which NIghthawk are you referring too? The Modem or the Nighthawk mobile app?
