Nighthawk Cable Modem

i bought, probably stupidly, the netgear Nighthawk Cable Modem CM1150V for my comcast service,  thinking i could use my existing wifi-routers.

I can not get either of my wifi routers (DLink DIR860L or Linksys WRT160N) to work with the modem.  The modem connects to my wired computer fine, but when i switch the cable to either wifi router, i get no wireless connectivity.  I have reset both routers to factory defaults, updated firmware, etc., but nothing works.

Can i be missing something?  Maybe the routers are too old (8years) to work with the netgear modem?

Be sure to power OFF the modem for 30 seconds, then power back ON with the router of your choice connected to the modem. Port #1 should be used with the router. The router should get a IP address from the modem after the power cycle.

to go along with what FURRYe38 said, you can also disconnect the coax from the modem when powering it down. For some random reason, that's helped the random person or 2.
