I had the same issue. Went from 300Mbps to the 600Mbps Xfinity offers. Once I did that I ran a speed test (fast.com) directly from the modem to my older pc that still has an ethernet port and got very close to 600 and sometimes above at 605Mbps. But for some reason even with Xfinity diagnostics (unplugging and plugging and resetting modem and router), once the signal leaves the modem and then to the router it is well below 600Mbps. Not even close. Around mid 300's to 400's. So their solution was to RENT one of their Wifi Modems. I'm using a new (AC1900) Netgear R7000 router.
