Nighthawk x4s C7800 w slow speeds from Xfinity Gigabit
Hello! I've had my C7800 for a little over a year with Xfinity Gigabit as my ISP. When I first got it, I was getting wired connections around 800+ Mbps, 5Ghz WiFi at 400+ Mbps, and 2.4 Ghz Wifi ...

Screenshots of the Connections page attached.
I re-tested using the Xfinity speedtest. Results were similar: Enthernet at 94Mbps, 5Ghz at 325Mbps, 2.4Ghz at 39Mbps.
The hardwired device is connected with a 6ft cable that is in perfect condition, so the physical cable does not appear to be the problem.

the 94mbps ethernet seems like its only negotiating a 10/100mbps connection and not gigabit.
What device are you testing hardwired with? I've ran into issues with ethernet adapters not negotiating the right connection speed, drivers being out dated, cable being bad, or even just not a gigabit adapter.
any other hardwired devices you could test with?
And check/swap the cables.
- dnewell215Apr 28, 2020AspirantAll tests were done using a MacBook Pro. I used a brand new Apple Ethernet-USB adapter to connect (bought it just to do this test).
I’d have to swap a cable out later when I have access to one, but the one that’s here worked fine for a long time, and then all of a sudden it didn’t. - dnewell215Apr 28, 2020AspirantAlso, if the C7800 is the supplying both the hardwired and WiFi connections, how would the 5Ghz be performing at 325Mbps, while the hardwired is performing at 94Mbps?
Sorry if this is not the best question... I know just enough time be dangerous about IT, but it’s not my area of expertise by any means.- plemansApr 28, 2020Guru - Experienced User
the c7800 is a cable modem/router combo device. If the c7800 is getting full speed, the wireless will work fine. But if the cable connecting it to the pc isn't rated gig, is bad, or even the device isn't linking at gigabit, it'll only pull the 94mbps because of overhead.
that's why I'd check
1. the cable
2. the device
